  8.           Fremont, Calif. -- June 28, 1993 -- Logitech is announcing
  9.           ScanMan EasyTouch, a boardless, 256 grayscale,
  10.           Windows(TM)-based hand-held scanner. Available in late
  11.           August at a list price of US$399, the ScanMan EasyTouch
  12.           package includes Logitech's FotoTouch(TM) Version 1.2 Color
  13.           Image Editing Software and OmniPage Direct AnyFont OCR
  14.           Software for Logitech, developed by Caere for Logitech
  15.           scanners and tailored to the special needs of hand-held
  16.           scanning. The parallel port interface of ScanMan EasyTouch
  17.           makes scanning available to all users, including those with
  18.           laptop machines and others who do not wish to open their
  19.           machines to install hardware.

  21.           ScanMan EasyTouch features a totally redesigned case, which
  22.           reflects Logitech's continuing concern with ergonomic
  23.           design.  Users hold the unit with the hand extended straight
  24.           out from the wrist, a position which is more natural and
  25.           comfortable. To facilitate straight, smooth scanning, the
  26.           main roller is now made of a polycarbon material which can
  27.           be more precisely machined to perfect roundness.

  29.           ScanMan EasyTouch plugs directly into the parallel port of a
  30.           computer. A special pass-through adaptor permits the user to
  31.           operate a printer through the same parallel port without
  32.           disconnecting the scanner. Programmability of the scanner
  33.           head enables the setting of resolution, scan mode, and
  34.           contrast through software, resulting in a near-buttonless
  35.           head (start/stop button only).

  37.           The TWAIN-compliant scanning software included with ScanMan
  38.           EasyTouch contains Logitech's AutoStitch feature, which
  39.           automatically merges multiple strips to produce images up to
  40.           15 inches wide. In addition, this and all other Logitech
  41.           software for Windows, including FotoTouch Color and OmniPage
  42.           Direct AnyFont OCR Software for Logitech, now feature an
  43.           online, context-sensitive graphical help system.

  45.           Logitech has announced it will bundle FotoTouch Color Image
  46.           Editing Software with all its Windows-based scanners. This
  47.           application, which evolved from the original award-winning
  48.           FotoTouch software, is both TWAIN-compliant and an OLE
  49.           (Object Linking and Embedding) server. It features an
  50.           extensive set of basic editing tools, selection effects, and
  51.           the ability to open multiple images onscreen and cut and
  52.           paste among these. In addition, a new feature, printer
  53.           profiles, has been added.  Through printer profiles,
  54.           FotoTouch Color optimizes tone and contrast for specific
  55.           printer types and brands.

  57.           "Today, only two percent of the installed base of personal
  58.           computer users own a scanner, so there's a tremendous
  59.           untapped market out there," says Molly Carlson, Logitech
  60.           product manager. "We believe the ability to easily integrate
  61.           images into a document without having to open up their
  62.           computers or worry about DMA channels and interrupts will
  63.           help to bring scanning into the mainstream of personal
  64.           computing. Moreover, the other main market for this product,
  65.           portable computers, promises to grow at an extremely healthy
  66.           rate over the next few years."

  68.           System Requirements for ScanMan EasyTouch include an
  69.           IBM-compatible AT with a 386SX processor or above, 4 MB RAM,
  70.           5 MB free disk space, DOS 3.1 or higher, a VGA or better
  71.           graphics card, Microsoftr Windows 3.1, and a Logitech or
  72.           compatible pointing device.
